A Hoyle Court Artist

“Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist”

(Pablo Picasso)

At Hoyle Court Primary School, we believe that high quality art lessons inspire children to think innovatively and develop creative procedural understanding. Above all, we want children to enjoy art. Our Art curriculum provides all children, regardless of ability of background, with opportunities to develop their skills using a range of media and materials and to learn about art from around the world.

Children learn the skills of drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles, sculpture and digital art and are given the opportunity to explore and evaluate different creative ideas. Children are introduced to a range of works and develop knowledge of the styles and vocabulary used by famous artists. The skills children acquire are applied to other areas of learning, allowing them to use their art skills to reflect on and explore topics in greater depth.

Children are encouraged to take risks and experiment, and then reflect on why some ideas and techniques are successful or not for a particular project. It is paramount that art work is purposeful; be this as a means of expression or to explore the styles of other artists that inspire our own work.

We provide opportunities for children to learn about art, the lives of artists and how to produce art they can be proud of.
